Thierry de Duve es profesor emérito de la Université de Lille 3, historiador del arte y filósofo, así como ocasionalmente comisario.

Durante el semestre de otoño de 2013 es Kirk Varnedoe Visiting Professor en el Institute of Fine Art, New York University.

Entre sus publicaciones en inglés se encuentran Pictorial Nominalism (1991), Kant after Duchamp (1996), Clement Greenberg Between the Lines (1996, 2010), Look—100 Years of Contemporary Art (2001), y Sewn In the Sweatshops of Marx: Beuys, Warhol, Klein, Duchamp (2012).

Recientemente ha terminado un libro de ensayos sobre estética y, durante el año académico 2012-2013 fue William C. Seitz Senior Fellow en el Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts (CASVA) en Washington, D.C. en los Estados Unidos.
