Art Summer University was a four-day program that took place at Tate Modern in September 2007, and that brought together artists, art theorists and curators from all over the world to celebrate the latest video-art creations recently presented that year at the Venice Biennale, Kassel Documenta, Basel and Münster.
Throughout these four days, and its nine sessions of talks and screenings, the selected eighteen artists could present a new artwork to the public, and discuss their artistic practice with them as well as with the invited specialists that conducted the debates. Among the latest, Art Summer University counted on the presence of Colin MacCabe, Chus Martínez and João Fernandes. On the artists side, Art Summer University gathered: Graham Gussin, Filipa César, Cao Guimarães, Rivane Neuenschwander, Hans Op de Beeck, Karin Kihlberg, Reuben Henry, Johan Grimonprez, Jeroen Kooijmans, Dora García, Miranda Pennell, Rui Calçada Bastos, Tellervo Kalleinen, Oliver Kochta-Kalleinen, Hiroharu Mori, Yael Bartana, Rä di Martino, Julika Rudelius, Meiro Koizumi, Guido van der Werve and Guy Ben-Ner.
Besides, the fourth day was dedicated to one-to-one workshops, in which applicants could share and discuss their own work with the aritsts; this way, Art Summer University attempted to be, for that long weekend, a true forum for professional and emerging artists, and to build bridges among them, curators and the general interested public.
