Green Plant
1989
(244.1 x 56.6 x 7.9 cm)
A tray of soil that will grow grass for the duration of the exhibition. I have placed a net inside the tray to hold the soil in place while the tray stands. The shape, size and installation of the sculpture is similar to Red Plank, a 1969 work by American minimalist artist John McCracken. Green Plant was exhibited at Galería Moriarty in 1989 and subsequently purchased by Jeffrey Deitch for the exhibition Artificial Nature at the Deste Foundation.. The images are of the grass growing in the studio and of the grass already dry after those two weeks at Moriarty.
