Untitled (Tower)
1988
Lamp, clay, electricity and iron
The electricity passed through the spine of the tower and through the wire from which the lamp hung. The contact between the lamp and the tower was unstable, with only one sharp point. It suggested to me a connection between the sky and the ground, similar to lightning. But the sculpture also suggests another connection, out of the picture, closing the circuit where electricity is produced. One of the pictures is in the Ciento gallery in Barcelona. The others are in the studio, being built, and some are tests with versions of the same idea. The exhibition was reviewed by Gloria Moure in Artforum.
