Las tres partes de la filosofía (Three Parts of the Philosophy)
1987
Wood, iron, quartz salts
After reading about alchemy, I came up with this object, which sums up some of the symbols of the tradition. I still find alchemy crucial as an example because its processes have some similarities with those of art: the manipulation of physical materials to achieve changes in the soul. Also because of its opposition to science. The 'philosophy' in the title is the knowledge of the alchemist. The Three Parts of the Philosophy is a classic alchemy book from which I extracted the texts printed around the buckets. The work was exhibited in Maastricht, at Galerie Wanda Reiff (the last picture).
