A plaque at the entrance to the exhibition proclaims 'The artist's pride in supporting Castlefield Gallery'. Such plaques are usually found in the rooms of museums whose contents or upkeep have been funded by the generosity of a donor. The phrase belongs to an economic relationship that is alien to the current status of the art world and suggests a kind of social structure that provokes reflection on the conditions of contemporary art.
