The prestissimo of Beethoven's Sonata No. 30 in E major, Opus 109, is played by a pianist. But the pianist's hands, although playing in perfect synchrony, belong to different people, one to a young person and the other to an elderly person. The Sonata was one of Beethoven's three last compositions, written in 1820, when he was 50 years old. It is one of his most important works for solo piano, especially because of the intricate counterpoint of the piece.

Duration Slice is a poetic expression of a temporal ellipsis. It compresses the duration of a lifetime, its events and places, into a single moment in which everything is simultaneous.
