1994
Moss and soil

This was the first of a series of three installations in different galleries that kept me busy in 1994/5 and involved excruciating physical labour and logistical problems. The entire floor of the Trayecto Gallery in Vitoria (Spain) was tessellated with piles of earth and moss, shaped and distributed according to a mathematical pattern. The pattern was taken from a book by Roger Penrose and is a 'quasi-periodic tiling with a crystallographically 'impossible' fivefold quasi-symmetry'.

Here is the catalogue of the exhibition, with a long text about the concept.
