The Fixed Idea
1987
Bronze, apple
I cast these half apples in Germany and a week later I exhibited them at the Wanda Reiff Gallery in Maastricht, the Netherlands, where they were sold and I never saw them again. They were the only work in bronze I ever made. Bronze is always a temptation because it makes everything so 'artistic'. Bronze casting gives the most direct (and somehow trivial) artistic result to the idea of fixation, of taking things out of the flow of time and giving them an eternal holiday.
