1995 – Virtual Cemetery

Virtual Cemetery

1995
Photo Print

As I was living in Niagara and working on my previous project, Shroud (This is not a Trophy), I used to pass by this cemetery in Buffalo, while I went from the fishmonger to the tailor or the photographer I was collaborating with for Shroud. Days later, I made a self-portrait dressed in a fake 'virtual-reality outfit'. Years have passed and this image has become more and more relevant for me, as it poses many ideas about art, representation, self-consciousness and death that I have been excited about in the last years. It presents the artist as a figure between the cutting-edge technician and the clown.
